Facebook is the first “social networking” sites (although its founder does not like it to be referred to like that) to incorporate messaging capabilities to non-Facebook users by allowing you to insert external email addresses as the recipients. This is a small step closer to Facebook really being the one stop website to do it all. They are also moving away from being the website for college/university students, to one for everyone.
Although this is expanding their membership, it makes me wonder whether they are at risk of spreading themselves thin and losing site (pun intended) of their core concept.
